Volunteers plant over three thousand trees throughout December

Council staff, the Countryside Rangers and the Muddy Boots sessions have planted over three thousand trees throughout December, across four tree planting days in Holt Country Park and Pretty Corner Woods.

The tree planting events are part of the Council’s 110,000 Trees Project – an initiative to plant one tree for every resident in North Norfolk.

The new trees and hedges will pad out and thicken areas of the woodland, reinforcing the parks.

The Muddy Boots volunteers are made up of volunteers from the Holt Community Hub and individuals from across the district, who spend their time in nature, assisting with vital conservation and management tasks.

Cllr. Nigel Lloyd, portfolio holder for Environmental Services, Climate Change & Environment said:

“I am so grateful to all the volunteers who have dedicated their time to help improve our wonderful woodlands. The efforts of these brilliant helpers will be apparent within our Green Flag parks for decades in the form of new tree and hedgerow growth. 

It truly is a good cause to help-out with and I would encourage anyone who wants to work with us in the natural environment to improve North Norfolk's local green spaces to get in touch.”

Council staff are given two volunteer days each year, which they can use to work on projects which will make a difference to communities in the district.

There are more tree planting events planned throughout January and February.
