Six North Norfolk beaches to fly Blue Flags again

Once again, North Norfolk District Council has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag award by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, for six of its beaches in 2022.

The six beaches along our coastline that have retained their Blue Flag status are Cromer, East Runton, Mundesley, Sea Palling, Sheringham and West Runton.

In total 80 beaches around England have been presented with this prestigious award in 2022, which is celebrating its 35^th anniversary.

To qualify for Blue Flag status a beach must meet a certain set of criteria. These requirements include excellent water quality, well-managed beaches, environmental education programmes, safety and services (including lifeguards and first aid), and litter and waste management.

Cllr. Virginia Gay, portfolio holder for Leisure, Wellbeing and Culture said:

“Once again, we have received the news that North Norfolk District Council has achieved six Blue Flags.

Here in North Norfolk, we are very proud of our magnificent Blue Flag beaches. They draw visitors to our District but, even more important still, they are a constant pleasure to those of us who live here. Many congratulations to the people who work all the year-round to make this possible for the rest of us”

Blue Flag is an international award which is managed in Britain by Keep Britain Tidy on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education.
