Who is standing for District in your area on 4 May?

On Thursday 4 May, the Council will be holding local elections where all 40 district seats across 32 wards are up for election, as are 128 Parish ward areas, which make up the 117 Parish and Town Councils within the district.

North Norfolk District Council has posted the Statement of Nominated Persons, detailing who is standing in the upcoming elections, with 138 candidates for the 40 District Councillor vacancies.

Elections will also be held for 13 contested Parish councils - A Parish Council is contested, where the number of nominations exceeds the number of vacancies.

Returning Officer Steve Blatch said:

“With 138 candidates contesting 40 district council seats across North Norfolk, residents have a good choice of candidates in terms of exercising their democratic voice on 4 May.

Residents eligible to vote should now have received their poll cards and I would remind all voters without a postal vote of the new requirements around Voter ID at the polling station, and if necessary apply for their Voter Authority certificate, postal vote or nominate a proxy voter to ensure they are able to cast their vote on polling day.”

The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming local elections is midnight on Monday 17 April. This includes registering to vote or registering to vote at your current address.
 
The Elections Act 2022 brought in new requirements for Voter ID at the polling station. There is a list of accepted photographic ID detailed on your poll card but if you do not have one you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate from the Council. The deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate is Tuesday 25 April.

Alternative ways to cast your vote includes postal voting, an easy way of voting without attending your polling station or nominating a proxy vote – a proxy voter can attend the polling station and cast your vote on your behalf.

Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm on Thursday 4 May, with the count taking place overnight at the close of poll.
