Date published: 24th May 2024
The RNLI will begin their summer season, with lifeguarding services returning to North Norfolk beaches from 25 May.
The lifeguard service has two parts to the season, a main and peak season for different lifeguarded beaches - the main lifeguard season runs from 25 May to 8 September and peak season runs from 6 July to 1 September.
Main Season beaches are:
- Sheringham West
- Cromer East
- Mundesley
- Sea Palling
Peak Season beaches are:
- Sheringham East
- Sheringham West
- West Runton
- East Runton
- Cromer West
- Cromer East
- Wells-next-the-sea
- Sea Palling
- Mundesley
As well as their critical cover for people who get into difficulty in the water, lifeguards are trained in First Aid and can be called upon for first response in an emergency for incidents around the beaches or promenades.
The Council has had a working relationship with the RNLI since 2007 and also works with Lifesaving Clubs and the Emergency Services to maintain and highlight water safety along the District’s 47 miles of coastline.
NNDC is a member of the multi-agency partnership Norfolk Water Safety Forum, which leads on drowning prevention and water safety for coastal and inland waters throughout Norfolk.
Water safety signage is present on all lifeguarded beaches, with key RNLI and NNDC information on there - these include information about first aid, hazards in and around the sea and what to do in an emergency.
