NNDC Annual Carbon Footprint Report and Route to Net-Zero
                        Date published: 3rd November 2025
North Norfolk District Council has made significant reductions in CO2 emissions in some key areas during the last year. Reductions in fleet, staff travel, and electricity use in both owned and leased assets have been encouraging. NNDC has also increased the amount of electricity generated from its assets including solar installations on the district’s leisure centres.

However, as a result of increased accuracy in data collection and asset management, additional emission sources are now included in the overall carbon footprint which has increased by 5% year on year. The reduction from the 2018/19 baseline figures remains a significant 25%.

Investment in additional temporary accommodation and large scale infrastructure projects such as the Cromer and Mundesley Coastal Protection Schemes have added to increased emissions.

Councillor Adam Varley, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Net Zero said:

“This year’s report demonstrates the challenges NNDC faces in meeting its ambitious Net Zero targets, whilst seeking to address other issues like housing need and investing in infrastructure. We are committed to transparent and accurate reporting and will continue to explore new and existing ways to deliver the carbon reductions needed.”

NNDC remains committed to its target timelines on Net Zero:
To be Net Zero across its estate and operations by 2030 and to assist the district to be Net Zero by 2045.
