North Norfolk District Council launches ‘Call for Sites’ to support new Local Plan
Date published: 1st June 2026
A ‘Call for Sites’, inviting landowners, developers, agents and members of the public to put forward land that may be suitable for future development launches today.
Submissions will be accepted from today (Monday, 1 June) and close on Monday, 13 July 2026.
The Call for Sites is being carried out as part of the Council’s early work to prepare a new Local Plan for North Norfolk. It provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to suggest land that could be considered for a range of uses, including housing, employment, infrastructure, open space, community and other uses.
Submitting a site does not mean it will automatically be allocated for development. Instead, all submitted sites will be assessed alongside other evidence to help inform decisions about how land should be used in the future.
The Local Plan sets out where development should take place and guides decisions on planning applications across the district. It plays a crucial role in balancing growth with the protection of North Norfolk’s environment, heritage and communities.
The current Local Plan was adopted in December 2025 and covers the period 2024 - 2040. The Council is required to prepare a new Local Plan under the Government’s reformed plan-making system, which aims to ensure that plans are up-to-date and responsive to change, quicker to prepare, and based on clear evidence and community engagement.
As part of this process, the Council must consider a wide range of potential development sites to ensure the plan is robust and meets future needs.
In line with the Government’s digital planning agenda, the Call for Sites will be conducted online. Submissions must be completed in a structured question-and-answer format, designed to make the process clearer and more consistent, ensure that all relevant information is captured, and support the efficient assessment of sites. Users will first be required to draw (plot) their site area on a web map.
To be accepted, site submissions must be:
- able to accommodate a minimum of five or more dwellings or be 0.25 hectares or more in size.
- submitted for each parcel of land (submission of multiple parcels of land will not be accepted).
Anyone wishing to submit a site can do so during the consultation period by visiting www.north-norfolk.gov.uk/callforsites. Guidance on how to draw your site boundary is also available, and support will be provided to address any accessibility needs.
The deadline for submissions is Monday, 13 July 2026.
