Deadline to appeal 2023 Rating List valuations

The deadline to challenge the current rateable value used to calculate your business rates is 31 March 2026. From 1 April 2026, a new valuation will take effect, and you will no longer be able to challenge the last rateable value used up to 31 March 2026. Find out more information on GOV.UK.

Appealing your rateable value

Rateable value appeals are dealt with by the Valuation Office Agency using their Check, Challenge, Appeal service.

Your valuation may be incorrect, or need changing because:

  • there has been a material increase or reduction in the value or size of the property. This could be as a result of demolition, an extension, or physical changes in the locality which affect the value.
  • the use of your premises may have changed
  • there has been a change in the balance between domestic and business use
  • you may appeal against the assessment after a revaluation
  • your property may be combined with one or more others, or split to create two or more new sub-units with different occupancy

Information on how to appeal against your property's rateable value can be found on GOV.UK business rates appeals.
