Thank you to everyone who participated in our housing allocation scheme consultation. We have had a fantastic response rate and appreciate the time taken to give us your views.

Following consideration of public feedback, a finalised new housing allocation scheme will be approved, and any changes will be implemented in 2025.

Background

Registered providers mostly own social housing in North Norfolk. The Council manages the Your Choice Your Home Scheme, including the housing registers, on behalf of the registered providers with social housing in the district to help allocate social housing.

The housing allocation scheme sets out who can join the housing register for social housing and the level of priority that will be awarded based on an applicant’s circumstances.

Demand for social housing in North Norfolk is high and increasing. There are currently over 2,500 applicants on the housing list, and in 2023/24, only 258 properties became available for letting. It means that for most households, the likelihood of being offered a property is extremely low, and other housing options will need to be identified and considered.

With such a high demand for social housing and only a limited supply of properties, priority must be given to those most in need. The revised housing allocations scheme will change how applications for social housing are assessed and prioritised to determine who can join the housing register and the criteria to determine the banding of each application.

The proposed allocation scheme makes changes that will impact households on the current housing register and future applicants.
