North Norfolk District Council’s Corporate Plan 2023 to 2027 identified 'Meeting our local housing need' as a top priority in the district.

The Council’s Housing Strategy builds on previous work to provide more housing and improve housing conditions across the district, including:

  • Twenty-three homes for use as temporary housing for homeless households and people at risk of rough sleeping. These properties reduce the Council’s dependency on bed and breakfast accommodation, which is expensive and unsuitable for long-term occupation.
  • Around 250 affordable homes are expected to be completed on sites across the district between 2024/25 and 2026/27. These are provided by working together with housing associations, land owners, local communities, and Homes England, the national funding body for affordable homes.
  • In 2022, the Council appointed an Energy Officer to help maximise the number of households in the district that receive grant-funded energy efficiency retrofit works. In 2023/24, nearly £450,000 from the Home Upgrade Grant will deliver improvements to 41 homes, benefitting low-income households and helping to reduce the district’s CO2 emissions.

The Council’s  Housing Strategy was developed with extensive involvement from stakeholders - people and organisations with knowledge of housing in the district. Good progress has been made in delivering the actions identified in the 2021 Housing Strategy Action Plan. New actions have been added to extend the Housing Strategy to 2027, in line with the Council’s Corporate Plan.
