The consultation is open for six weeks, from midday on Monday 20 July to 5pm on Monday 31 August 2026.

What is being consulted on?

As part of the early work to review our Local Plan, we are undertaking a ‘Scoping Consultation’ which seeks views on what the new Local Plan should contain, where future growth could be focused, the evidence that we intend to prepare, and how people would like to be engaged as the Plan progresses. A background document is available to view alongside an associated survey.

Why is this consultation necessary?

The Government has introduced significant changes, including legislating for a new plan-making system and widespread changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and Planning Practice Guidance (PPG). The Council adopted its current Local Plan on 17 December 2025; however, the Government now requires us to review and update it to make sure our planning policies are up to date, consistent and effective, and that housing and other needs are appropriately planned for.

The Scoping Consultation is the first formal public consultation in the plan-making process. It is required by Regulation 20 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026.

How to respond to the consultation

To respond to the consultation, please visit our consultation portal and complete the survey questions by 5pm on Monday 31 August 2026.

What happens next?

The feedback received will be reviewed to identify the main considerations and suggestions raised. This will help shape the next stage of the Local Plan review and will inform more detailed proposals for future consultation. A summary of the Scoping Consultation will also be published following the consultation so that participants can see who was invited to comment, and how the Council has considered the feedback so far.
