A Blue Badge is a parking permit for people with severe mobility problems caused by ongoing and substantial disabilities. Disabled drivers can use it to park closer to destinations or carers of disabled people can use it to take them to appointments and social outings.

Applications for Blue Badges are assessed against government criteria by the Blue Badge Unit at Norfolk County Council. You can read more about eligibility and who can get a Blue Badge or complete an online eligibility check.

How to apply

If you can, please apply online. However, if you need a paper form, call Norfolk County Council on 0344 800 8020 and press option one, or email bluebadgeunit@norfolk.gov.uk to request this.

It is important to submit evidence of your disability, such as supporting letters from a GP or other clinicians involved in your healthcare. These should detail any diagnoses, planned treatments, and how the condition impacts your life. The application should demonstrate the difficulties you experience while walking, as this is important to the assessment. You can read examples of evidence you may be required to submit to support your application.

If you need practical support to fill out the form, contact Norfolk Citizen's Advice on 0800 144 8848, who can offer an appointment at a local office to help you complete this. You can also ask your local library if they can support you to fill out the online form.

Renewals

There is not a separate process for renewals. When a current badge is due to expire, you will need to complete a new application and submit evidence that your condition and difficulties are ongoing.
